JOHANNA MARIE SCHIMMING

Johanna Marie Schimming is a painter born in Dresden, Germany in 1988. Loving to immerse herself in other linguistic and cultural environments, she moved to Rome, Italy at the age of 18 where she lived for 6 years.
"I have always worked between art and design. I enrolled in the Fine Arts School in Rome and, at the same time, I won a competition for a scholarship to study fashion design at the Instituto Europeo Di Design Roma.
I left this opportunity decide for me, believing that it would be easier and more realistic to make a living from design, rather than exclusively from art.
Abstract painting is for me a vital compensatory practice to the meticulous and figurative drawing, it is today the most important position in my life.
I do not give titles other than the numbering in the catalog of the works, because I do not wish to influence the interpretation of the painting by the viewer with an explicit title.
Instead, I want everyone to be able to appropriate my paintings in their own way."
